Kamiya’s career began in 2006 as a freelance journalist. Over the years, she contributed to stories on finance, lifestyle, health, and travel, eventually landing coveted roles at prominent media outlets such as CNBC TV18, Bloomberg UTV, and ET Now. When she first asked her CNBC boss for anchoring, she said Kamiya, you are not good enough to be in front of the camera. It shattered her, but then she realised what she had to work on and she did. It took her 5 years to work as an anchor. She worked as a financial markets anchor, correspondent, and associate producer, covering a wide range of topics, including corporate earnings and global economic trends.
While Kamiya enjoyed the rigours and prestige of financial journalism, she yearned for something more personal and creatively liberating. A turning point came during her coverage of a Formula One event in Malaysia, where she met travel journalists who sparked a new dream of telling human-centric stories rooted in travel, food, and culture.
In 2016, after nearly a decade in the corporate media world, Kamiya took a bold leap. Leaving her stable job behind, she founded Curly Tales, which is a digital platform focused on travel, food, and lifestyle. What began as a personal blog soon evolved into a full-fledged media brand.
She started small, creating travel guides, restaurant reviews, and vlogs. The real breakthrough came when she embraced video content. With her relatable style, warm presence, and engaging storytelling, she began connecting deeply with audiences across social media platforms.
Curly Tales experienced phenomenal growth, transforming from a personal blog into one of India’s leading travel and lifestyle content platforms. In 2017, the brand ventured into video storytelling on Facebook and Instagram and capturing audiences with engaging visuals and relatable narratives. By 2018, Kamiya Jani was collaborating with major hospitality brands and interviewing Bollywood celebrities, further elevating the platform’s profile. The year 2019 marked a turning point for the Curly Tales YouTube channel, driven by popular food vlogs, travel series, and the launch of the iconic Sunday Brunch, where Kamiya hosted candid celebrity interviews over meals.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020–2021, the platform quickly adapted by shifting focus to staycations, food delivery reviews, and local explorations, maintaining relevance amid global travel restrictions. In 2022, Curly Tales crossed the milestone of 1 million followers and began expanding into regional content to cater to a more diverse audience. By 2023, it had firmly established itself as a household name in India’s digital media landscape, celebrated for its authentic storytelling and innovative content. In 2024, the Curly Tales YouTube channel reached 3.12 million subscribers by April 26 and 4.35 million by June. Kamiya also received National Creator Awards in the same year.
What sets Kamiya apart is authenticity and innovation. Her content reflects real experiences, crafted with journalistic discipline and creative flair. She combines research, relatability, and quality production, whether it's a food trail in Delhi, a weekend getaway in Goa, or a heart-to-heart with a celebrity. Kamiya Jani's impactful work in the digital media landscape has earned her several prestigious accolades over the years.
In 2018, she was honoured as the Top Social Influencer of the Year by Upper Story, followed by the title of Most Influential Content Marketing Professional in 2019 by the World Marketing Congress. Her continued excellence in the field of food and travel content was recognised in 2022 when she received the Best Food Influencer of the Year award from Exhibit Magazine.
